CHAPTER SIX
KISSING Honey was like receiving manna from heaven and he drew her body closer to his, annoyed both of them were dressed in weatherproof ponchos, gloves and beanies. He wanted to run his fingers through her long and silky hair; he wanted to nibble at that delectable neck heâd caught glimpses of during the week. He wanted to have her arms wrapped around him as he took his sweet time exploring the wonders of this extraordinary woman.
Kissing her now had been a spur-of-the-moment thing, completely spontaneous, and while he was the type of man who for years, had meticulously planned everything, standing here with his mouth pressed firmly against Honeyâs he couldnât deny the appeal of following through on a thought.
Heâd wanted to kiss herâso he had.
âNice,â she said against his mouth, drawing the word out slowly, savouring it. âWho knew the simple touch of your mouth to mine would be so incrediblyâ¦dynamic?â
Edward murmured his agreement, then closed his eyes and kissed her again, wanting to commit every shared sensation to memory. Heâd locked his own wants and needs away for so long but now heâd broken the drought, so to speak, he wanted to continue sampling her sweet, flavour-some lips.
It felt right holding her in his arms, even though they were encumbered by wind, rain and plastic ponchos. Something deep within him felt as though it were breaking open, a crack in the armour heâd surrounded himself with for so long while he did what had to be done. It was as though freedom was close at hand, that his reward was near, that his life would soon start to make sense. Heâd be able to walk his own path, rather than following the footsteps of others.
And Honey? Did she fit into that new world of freedom heâd been searching for? Was she merely the gatekeeper to show him the way? To put him on the right path? Was there room for her to walk along beside him? The thoughts jolted Edward back to the present, his mind zinging with possibilities, probabilities and a ton of questions.
He savoured Honeyâs addictive lips one last time, before pulling back, the wind having changed direction, the rain urging them to keep moving.
âIâm happy to continue exploring every contour of your lovely faceâ¦â He exhaled slowly, then glanced around at their present surroundings. âBut I fear now is not the time.â
âOr the place,â she added as he took her hand in his once more.
âLetâs get to somewhere drier,â he suggested, and together they headed back onto the track. The rain had eased, the atmospheric disturbance having calmed down somewhat, and visibility was better.
Honey was elated because Edward had just kissed her. There had been no build-up, no shuffling dance towards each other. Edward had simply pulled her close and kissed her. Right out of the blue! Sheâd hoped that by bringing him here today, heâd have the opportunity to relax, to take some time out for himself, to do what he wanted to do.
